Dates

This site will be active from May 23rd to June 14th, although the final project reports will be accepted until June 21st.

Location

The school will be rotating across five locations to give students a sense of the diversity of research happening in Toronto!! The school starts at the Peter Gilgan Centre for Research and Learning (PGCRL SickKids) 686 Bay St., Toronto, ON M5G 0A4. We are hosted by SickKids Peter Gilgan Centre for Research and Learning, the Ontario Brain Institute (OBI), SciNet/MaRS Discovery District, Toronto Metropolitan University (TMU) and the Krembil Centre for Neuroinformatics at the Centre for Addiction and Mental Health (KCNI/CAMH).

  • Week 1: PGCRL SickKids - 686 Bay St., Toronto, ON M5G 0A4
  • Week 2: OBI - 4th floor, 1 Richmond St W.SciNet Classroom
  • Week 3 (Mon.): SciNet - 11th floor 661 University Avenue, Toronto, ON M5G 1M1
  • Week 3 (Thur. & Fri.): TMU - 8th floor, 1270 Atrium on Bay, 20 Dundas Street West (access through the elevators next to MUJI’s entrance inside AoB)
  • Week 4: KCNI/CAMH: 12th Floor, 250 College Street (College and Spadina), Toronto ON - M5T 1R8

Expertise

This site has particular expertise in fMRI processing, fMRI analysis, functional connectivity analysis, multivariate statistics, and neuroinformatics.

Prerequisites

Participants will need access to a computer and internet, and to register to a number of online collaborative tools, such as Discord and GitHub. The installation of the necessary software will be covered during Week 1. Since we are starting later in the week, we highly recommend attendees finish all the installation modules before our first on-site day.

Schedule

The school will run hybrid over the 3.5-week run, where in-person recommended days at our host sites will be opened from 9:30 am to 5 pm, with a one-hour break for lunch. We will also add remote days where students can return to their responsibilities outside Brainhack School.

Grades

This summer school is not credited, but all participants will have a certificate for their learning. Your project can also be shown on the main website as a record of your progress. The requirements for finishing the course are as follows:

  • Complete at least 6 modules or tutorials (including the ones offered on-site) from Week 1
  • Complete at least 3 modules or tutorials (including the ones offered on-site) from Week 2
  • Complete at least 1 module from Week 3
  • Complete and attend project pitching
  • Complete final project presentation

*A module or tutorial is considered completed when the participant has gone through the materials and finished the assignment.
